About my work and ethos

Home / About

Are you about to become a Mum? Perhaps you have children already?

It’s an amazing and life-changing experience. But life with kids can be hectic, and finding the time to heal and strengthen your body can be difficult. That’s where I can help.

I’m Emma Smith, a pelvic health physiotherapist, cyclist and mum. In a former life I was a lawyer and professional triathlete. I refocused my career to Physiotherapy because of my personal passion for health, movement and science, and to help people like you achieve your goals and live a healthy, happy life.

A little about me

I’m a specialist pelvic health physiotherapist drawing on my 10+ years of health, sport and life experience to help you regain strength, health and wellness in your whole body (including your pelvic floor).

I want to change the way women understand their pelvic floor and overall health. I’m stamping out misinformation and misunderstanding and offering clarity and evidenced-based physiotherapy.

I’ve worked in the commercial world as a property lawyer, trained full time as a professional triathlete competing in Ironman and off-road Xterra triathlons across the world and worked as a massage therapist. Physio encapsulates my logic, creativity, determination, hands on skill and extensive movement training, and allows me to focus all my experience on helping you.

I know what it feels like to be a mum, combat injuries, overcome health problems and train in movement disciplines such as adult gymnastics, running, cycling, swimming, weight lifting, pilates, gyrotonic and meditation. I apply this experience into my clinical practice to help you thrive in movement, health and wellness and give you the tools to pursue your goals and ambitions in sport and exercise and everyday life in motherhood and beyond.

Alongside my work at Pro Pelvic Floor, I am proud to work for the NHS part-time in Bath at the Royal United Hospital in Musculoskeletal and Pelvic Health Physiotherapy. I work with Midwives, Specialist Nurses and Pelvic Health Consultants in Obstetrics, Urology and Gynaecology to provide integrated health care for men and women.

A year after the birth of my daughter I was resigned to living with the symptoms of my prolapse… I cannot believe the difference that Emma has made to my life. I feel much better, healthier and happier with the tools now to improve things even further.
